ALLOY Metal Mosaic Tiles - Introduction

ALLOY METAL TILES : 32 styles, 12 materials + finishes

Sleek, solid and unrelentingly stylish, ALLOY tiles have changed the face of mosaics by delivering the seductive sheen of metal for interior and exterior surfaces. The metal tile choice of leading architects and designers from around the world, ALLOY was the first and is still the only company to use a solid 1.6mm material punched from a single sheet of the highest quality metal, ensuring an unsurpassed finish that is designed to last a lifetime.

The unique ALLOY tile sheets, unlike low-grade copies, are long lasting and hardwearing and contain no backing mesh, plastic inserts or metal look-alike 'metallic' coatings so they won't dent, crack or de-laminate.

THE ORIGINAL METAL MOSAIC

ALLOY designer Jonathon Worner first developed the idea for a face-mounted, solid metal mosaic tile in 1998 that, until ALLOY's innovative approach, traditional tile manufacturers had been unable to produce. After many months of careful design and rigorous testing in ALLOY's Australian factory - to ensure a seamless finish coupled with long lasting strength and durability - the ALLOY 20x20mm solid, stainless steel, sheeted mosaic tile was complete. ALLOY metal mosiac tiles are now highly sought after, featuring in many high profile commercial and domestic interiors and exteriors around the world.

MATERIALS + FINISHES

Q & A What is an Alloy?

An Alloy is the collective name given to all metals that have been combined by man with various materials to produce another type of metal, for example, stainless steel, titanium, copper, brass and aluminum are all Alloys.

Why choose ALLOY metal tiles?
  • We only work with high-grade metals. Some companies will substitute high-grade metals with cheaper materials that will corrode and not last. Only ALLOY, manufacturers of the authentic solid metal mosaic tile, provides a Certificate of Origin document, which ensures only high-grade stainless steels and metals are used.
  • Punched from one sheet of 1.6mm metal, ALLOY tiles are made from solid metal and contain no backing mesh, plastic inserts or metal look-alike 'metallic' coatings, so ALLOY tiles won't dent, crack or de-laminate. Beware of imitations!
  • ALLOY has been producing metal mosaics for more than 15 years and we are recognised for our consistent quality.
  • ALLOY metal tiles are face mounted for better protection of the tile face during installation.
  • Stainless steel and other metal tiles cannot be cut on site without leaving sharp edges and burn marks, ALLOY is the only manufacturer to offer a full range of finishing pieces ensuring a superior finish when a full tile will not fit!
  • Our metal tiles are Australian Made and therefore guaranteed sweatshop free.
  • Because we design and manufacture, it is easy for us to custom make designs and develop new forms to expand your creative license! Tile sheets can be manufactured with any combination of materials + finishes. Simply contact us with your specification.
  • We stand proudly behind our product and will be there to answer any questions you may have or provide any assistance you may need during installation and for the life of our metal tiles.
Can you 'cut' ALLOY metal tiles?

No. ALLOY tiles are solid metal and are therefore very difficult to cut like regular ceramic tiles, particularly if you don't have the right tools. Our metal tiles have been designed to provide a seamless finish and we don't like to leave anything to chance. We have designed an extensive range finishing pieces to ensure the perfect installation.

Does stainless steel rust?

No, however, if there is some appearance of 'discolouration' it is usually surface contamination that deposits ON the surface of stainless steel, this can be removed by cleaning using recommended products and techniques stated in our Caring manual

How environmentally friendly is stainless steel?

As an end product stainless steel is 100% recyclable, durable and requires a minimum of maintenance, outlasting many competing products and eliminating requirements for additional potentially hazardous materials such as paint, fire protective coatings, cleaners and solvents. New stainless steel comprises at least 50% recycled stainless steel product and more than half the stainless steel produced today has already been another useful stainless steel product in the past.

INSTALLATION

ALLOY tiles are a high quality, solid metal product; they are FACE MOUNTED and much thinner than conventional glass, ceramic or porcelain tiles, so the sheets require a different method of installation.

METAL TILE ADHESIVE

Leading tile adhesive companies Laticrete and Mapei recommend their products for ALLOY metal tiles and mosaics after testing and trialing their products to ensure non-stop adhesion. Laticrete has provided its own installation procedures for ALLOY metal tiles with the Latapoxy range.

GROUT

ALLOY has developed very specific requirements for applying grout to ALLOY tiles to ensure the very best result. Due to our careful design and superior manufacturing techniques we ensure a fine 1.3mm grout line to create a refined design that won't overwhelm the tile. We ensure that the tiles are outstanding element of the design, not the grout. Grout is only essential when the tiles are being applied to wet areas. If grout is being used, it is very important that a non-sanded non-grit grout is used to avoid scratching the tile surface.

CARING FOR ALLOY METAL TILES

STAINLESS STEEL + TITANIUM PLATED TILES

Generally warm soapy water with a soft sponge is sufficient. ALLOY also recommends environmentally friendly Enjo mitts for cleaning and maintaining stainless steel tiles.

With stainless steel, depending on the surface contamination, a number of other cleaning agents can be used. Generally, a good quality stainless steel cleaner will work wshell or multi-purpose cleaners such as Spray & Wipe or Windex. Avoid any acid based cleaners as they may cause pitting or corrosion of the metal surface.

COPPER + BRASS TILES

The use of soap based cleaning products on copper and brass tiles may accelerate oxidization and the developing of the natural patina - if this is the look that is sought.

To return luster and sheen to copper and brass tiles ALLOY suggests the regular use of Flitz Liquid Polish - a high performance metal cleaner and polish in a liquid form. Flitz cleans & polishes: brass, copper and stainless steel. Removes: tarnish, rust, water stains, heat discoloration, oxidation & fingerprints
